LOS ANGELES — Slayer. Megadeth. Two names synonymous with fierce, crunching power. Two bands whose histories are inevitably intertwined in defining the thrash/metal genre. Individually, their respective prowess and accomplishments are impressive; but together, they’re brutal and unstoppable. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline “American Carnage”, the most blistering, the most explosive and the most eagerly-anticipated mega-tour of the winter—and you do not want to miss it.
Jamaican-born reggae/dancehall artist Honorebel recently dropped a new single, “Now You See It (Shake That Ass)”, featuring Pitbull and Jump Smokers. Check out the new video!
If you’ve been paying attention to the radio at all this summer, there is no way that you’ve missed this track by Kim Sozzi – it just passed Lady Gaga’s “Pokerface” as Billboard’s Most Played Dance Single of 2009. We’ve got the super hot video for the top dance track in the US (and around most of the world as well), off her album, Just One Day (Ultra Records) – available online and in stores now [iTunes, Amazon].
This past Thursday, I was able to conduct an interview with The Fifth’s bassist, Bernie “B-Man” Mongiboyat. Among the topics discussed include the North Carolina-based hard-rock band’s signing with BMG/Universal, their new album, titled Confessions of Man, their latest music video for “The Gift” and their band name and existence of other Fifths. Also discussed briefly is B-Man’s take on what’s going on in comics (he also runs a comic book store) and partying with WWE wrestlers Matt and Jeff Hardy.

The Mars Volta – Octahedron
Warner Bros. (6/23/09)
Progressive/Experimental rock
“I consider it to be our acoustic album”, reveals Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, guitarist for The Mars Volta and producer of their fifth studio album. Vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala adds, “We know how people can be so linear in their way of thinking, so when they hear the new album, they’re going to say, ‘This is not an acoustic album! There’s electricity throughout it!’ But it’s our version. That’s what our band does—celebrate mutations. It’s our version of what we consider an acoustic album.”
Octahedron is less intense than previous efforts, and the band claims that this is not a concept album. However, it still packs that Volta “punch”, with explosive guitar riffs, bombastic drumming and eerie sounds that fans have become accustomed to hearing.

You just can’t make this stuff up, folks. Just weeks after Madonna was dumped from a horse (not surprisingly, even a horse can’t stand to be around her), the equines continue to revolt, this time leaving singer Leona Lewis in their path of destruction.
A seasoned horseback rider since childhood, Lewis had been given a stallion for her 24th birthday last month. She was riding the horse near her home in Los Angeles last month when he suddenly turned on her, rearing up and whipping his head back, striking her in the face and tossing her to the ground.
